So says Brad Pitt, who was quoted in an interview with German newsweekly Stern as saying, "With 'Basterds,' everything that can be said to this genre has been said. The film destroys every symbol. The work is done, end of story."

Box office results would indicate that European audiences concur with Pitt's boast. After a Wednesday release in France, "Inglourious Basterds" scored the best opening day ever for a Tarantino film, raking in a gross profit of $1.4 million, according to variety.com. In Australia, the film finished No. 1 after opening Thursday, grossing $490,000 from 201 openings. The film opened Friday in 3,165 theaters domestically.
