Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated £218,000 to pay for health care for children left homeless in war-ravaged Somalia. The nation has been suffering its worst famine in 60 years, and the United Nations says 750,000 people are at risk of starving to death in coming months.
Mohamed Dahir, of Humanitarian Initiative Just Relief Aid, said Badbaado camp, in Mogadishu, serves around 300 women and children each day. He added the donation from the Hollywood stars’ Jolie-Pitt Foundation will help his group battle to save lives. The US estimates the drought and famine have so far killed more than 29,000 children under the age of five in the south.
