Glasgow is said to have been selected as the location for the new blockbuster zombie movie World War Z . Featuring Brad Pitt and anticipated to be the biggest film shoot ever held in Scotland, the movie will provide a boost to Scotland’s economy.

“The film is a big thing for Glasgow and the whole of Scotland,” an insider told the Express. “It will provide a big boost to the economy. The good news is that Brad will be right at the centre for the action.”
Hollywood A-lister Brad Pitt is expected to spend around two weeks in the city as it is transformed into a war-torn ruin that will double as US city Philadelphia. False shop fronts and American cars will be used once shooting begins in August.
The crew and actors will be based in a tented village in George Square – an area where a lot of the action will take place, however, other parts of the city will also be closed off as it is transformed to resemble Philadelphia’s city centre.
Another source at the Express said: “There has been an international scouting operation looking for streets that resemble American city centres. “They are looking at places like St Vincent Street, which will be closed off when filming takes place.”
The film is based on a screenplay by J.Michael Straczynski and will be produced by Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment production company for Paramount Pictures. Producers are said to still be looking at several locations across the UK however it is understood that the Glasgow Film Office is in discussion about the possibility of filming in Glasgow.
As well as World War Z, it was announced on Sunday that another zombie movie The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet would also be filmed in Scotland, this time in Culross, Fife. The film featuring Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen and Gillian Anderson will begin shooting later this year.
