On 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated), Whoopi Goldberg credited Brad Pitt for his efforts to bring green, affordable housing to New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward after being ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

"It is extraordinary what's going on down there," Goldberg said. "I'm tipping my dreads to Brad Pitt because he put his money where his mouth is. He's always been a guy who did stuff, but he doesn't talk about it."

For a while it seemed very likely that Moneyball, the story of how the 2002 Oakland A’s defeated their opponents with statistics, would never reach theaters.  Yet, the project is slowly but surely coming together.  Although original director Steven Soderbergh dropped out of the project, Brad Pitt remains attached to star, Aaron Sorkin was brought in to touch up Seven Zaillian’s script, and Bennett Miller (an Oscar nominee for directing Capote) was hired to replace Soderbergh.  All sure signs that Sony intends to make something of the material.

With Oscar festivities well under way, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie opted for a more family-oriented Sunday in Venice as the duo took their brood to a birthday party. Leaving twins Knox and Vivienne at home, Brad and Angie took a water taxi ride with Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh to director Florian von Donnersmarck’s home in Italy, according to Radar Online, to celebrate one his children’s birthdays.

Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf need help from their fans if they stand a chance of not coming bottom in our Best Actor Oscars poll. We have been asking people who they think deserves the Oscar for Best Actor, and Brad Pitt hasn't received a single vote.

Shia LaBeouf has only done fractionally better with two votes. Spiderman star Tobey Maguire and new grandad Jim Carrey are also doing badly and could do with some votes ASAP. At the moment it is the young actors who are leading the way with Robert Pattinson, Daniel Radcliffe and Chris Colfer all doing well. Zac Efron needs more votes if he is to stop Kellan Lutz and Morgan Freeman from overtaking him.

ANGELINA Jolie and Brad Pitt are back in Italy. The couple  and their six kids  arrived in Venice Sunday afternoon. The family had been in Paris, France, where Jolie was filming scenes for her new movie The Tourist.

The actress will now continue filming in Italy. Johnny Depp also stars in the movie. To mark their return to Italy, Pitt, 46, took Maddox, 8, Pax, 6, Zahara, 5 and 3-year-old Shiloh for a stroll around Venice yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, sources recently insisted Brad and Angelina have kept twins Knox and Viv hidden for so long because they don’t feel the need to show them off. “Brad and Angelina have large homes that allow for playing and running.

And exploring,” a source told American magazine Life & Style. “If you had a château in France or a mansion in LA, you wouldn’t need to take the kids out much either.”

Just every other day the tabloids start reporting that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are heading for a break-up. No sooner that happens.

The style icon Jolie has been sporting chunky blonde highlights and sideswept bangs for playing the role of an unsuspecting American tourist, Cara.

The Tourist is a thriller which revolves around an American tourist and how she’s used by an Interpol agent (played by the very sexy Johnny Depp) to catch a criminal with whom she was once romantically involved.

The Inglorious Basterds actor could not help stopping by his girlfriend’s movie set to grab a quick smooch while taking little Zahara and Shiloh on a shopping spree. An onlooker said: “They looked like any other couple in love who are forced apart by work.”

Brad Pitt has had discussions with the producers of "Sherlock Holmes" to star in a sequel as the detective's nemesis Moriarty, according to people familiar with the project.

No deal is in place for Pitt, currently in theaters with "Inglourious Basterds," and there's still three months to go until the first picture is released on Christmas Day.

Robert Downey, Jr. plays Holmes in the Warner Bros. project, which Guy Ritchie directed.
