Brad Pitt’s Plan B is closing a deal to option Michael Lewis’ upcoming book “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine,” a look at Wall Street greed and the U.S. housing market.
Before you’re overcome by yawning jags, Lewis has a knack for turning seemingly boring topics into feature films. His non-fiction story The Blind Side about the role of a strong left tackle famously became a dramatic vehicle for Sandra Bullock and scored them both Oscar nominations Tuesday morning.
He’s also the author of Moneyball, a story of statistical analysis in the game of baseball Brad Pitt is set to star in. This adaptation was good to go at Sony until it was cancelled three days before production went underway and director Steven Soderbergh left.
According to Vulture, Pitt will produce under his deal with Paramount Pictures and maintains the usual possibility of starring. He seems determined to make a Michael Lewis movie now more than ever. If its not baseball statistics, he will be attempting to explain rapid increases in the valuation of real property and — yaaaawn. Nope, I couldn’t get through it. Also the “Doomsday Machine” title is a tad over-dramatic for running real estate numbers.
